After the monumental success of Kantara in 2022, Rishab Shetty returns with Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1, a prequel that delves deeper into the mystical lore and cultural tapestry of coastal Karnataka. Slated for a grand release on October 2, 2025, this installment promises a cinematic experience that intertwines mythology, action, and spirituality.

Set during the reign of the Kadamba dynasty in 300 CE, the film explores the origins of the sacred traditions and the eternal bond between man and nature. Rishab Shetty portrays a Naga Sadhu endowed with superhuman abilities, embarking on a quest that intertwines destiny, divinity, and duty. The narrative promises to unravel the genesis of the deity's legend, offering insights into ancient rituals and the spiritual ethos of the time.

  • Theatrical Release: October 2, 2025, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti, across multiple languages including Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali, and English. 

  • Digital Streaming: Post its theatrical run, the film will be available on Amazon Prime Video, which acquired the digital rights for a record ₹125 crore. 

⚠️ Behind the Scenes: A Tragic Incident

During the film's production, a tragic incident occurred when junior artiste MF Kapil drowned in the Souparnika River near Kollur, Karnataka. The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has called for a thorough investigation and demanded ₹1 crore in compensation.
